In this session, London-based Dr. Crofton Black, who is leading a project on CIA torture at the Bureau of Investigative Journalism’ at City University, will show journalists how to develop stories from US
federal procurement data. Dr. Black, researcher, journalist and writer with extensive experience of complex investigations in the field of human rights abuses and counter-terrorism, will offer insights into using this data to look at which companies are being paid by the US government to
provide services abroad. He will show what data is available, what it
means and what tools can be used to analyse it. He will also look at the problems that can be encountered and ways round them.
